In a world that demands we’re busy and that the more we do somehow ‘proves’ how amazing we are, it can be an unpopular thing to say: you need to focus. And it’s even more unpopular to say when it comes to marketing.
Marketing is ‘meant’ to be full-on, creative, crazy, a bit intense – right?
Wrong. Marketing is at its best when it is pure, simple and focused.
Why? Well, marketing should be all about connection. Connecting with the people who want and need your solutions. And while we might enjoy hanging out with that mad, unpredictable friend, we really value the good, solid, connections we have on a regular basis with the people that are consistent and constant in our lives.
We know were we stand with them. We know what to expect – and when they do surprise us or mix it up a little every now and again, it’s fun and interesting because we have a good relationship, rather than odd and disconcertingly unexpected.
In marketing, as in life, these good, solid connections come through focus. The friend who flutters around different people or is absent for ages is wonderful when they alight on you – but it means they aren’t top of your mind on a regular basis. They aren’t your ‘go to’. The same applies to marketing.
Marketing focus comes when you know clearly what your company stands for, what you offer and whom to, and you then consistently and constantly create and maintain those connections.
If you want support finding your marketing focus, get in touch. It’s what I do.
