The Growth Optics Framework

The structure behind everything I do

The Growth Optics Framework

Five Optics. Three Growth Pathways. One clear Marketing Plan.

Over 20 years of marketing consultancy experience working with B2B business owners has taught me that they don’t need more marketing ‘ideas’ or ‘advice’. They need a clear, workable way to think about their marketing so they can then organise it into a realistic Marketing Plan that works.

The Growth Optics Framework is how I do that.  It’s the approach behind my 12 week B2B Marketing Course, my consultancy and my Free Masterclasses.

Why most B2B marketing doesn't work (and it's not what you think)

The business owners who come to me are smart, hard-working people.

They’re often busy ‘doing’ marketing and have even outsourced some of this ‘doing’. They’ve got a website, a LinkedIn page, maybe a newsletter, are putting things out on socials, and often networking too. But it isn’t working.

Why?

Because they have a marketing strategy problem, not a marketing doing problem. No-one has ever shown them how to think like a strategic marketer for a small business. The Growth Optics Framework solves the thinking problem first.

When you know how to look at your business through all Five Growth Optics, an effective, workable, marketing plan stops being optional. It’s just what comes next.

Following The Growth Optics ensures that you can find, attract and retain the RIGHT clients for your business – go from marketing stress to growth success!

The 5 Growth Optics

The first four build true marketing clarity. The fifth turns that clarity into a marketing plan your business can actually run and get results from.

This is the approach I have been successfully using for over 20 years as a marketing consultant and in my own businesses. It’s now codified and structured so that any determined owner of a small B2B Business can understand it, follow it, benefit from it.

Optic 1. WHAT: Define your Business Success

Your marketing has to deliver what your business regards as success. That’s why ‘copy and paste’ marketing strategies don’t work. Most Business Owners think they know what success means to them. But they rarely have it written down in a way that drives their marketing decisions, so their marketing actively contributes to that business success.

Optic 2. WHO: Get Intimate with the Right Clients

Poorly or weakly defined Ideal Client Personas (ICPs) lead to marketing that doesn’t work. WHO means understanding your ideal client’s readiness, their fit, and their relationship to the problem you solve and understanding them so well that you can’t help but design marketing that finds, attracts and retains them.

Optic 3. HOW: How you show up and how they find you

Visibility isn’t the same as being findable by the right people. HOW covers where you show up in your marketplace and how you quickly signal to the RIGHT clients that you are worth their attention.

Optic 4. WHY: Why They Stay in Your Orbit

Getting found is only half the job. WHY is about what keeps a prospect engaged after that first contact and ensuring they stick around in your company’s orbit while they figure out what to do next. It’s also about knowing what keeps a client renewing, referring and staying, long after the sale is done.

Optic 5. PLAN: Plan Your Growth Pathways for Success

This is where we turn all that crucial marketing thinking and understanding from the first four Optics into  a structured, month-by-month Growth Marketing Plan. This  Plan builds your Three Growth Pathways, below, so your business has a marketing pipeline full of people either giving you business or ready to.

The Three Growth Pathways

Not every prospective, right client, is ready for you. The Three Growth Pathways map where a prospect actually is and the journey they might take to becoming a client – and what your marketing needs to do about it.

Perfect Fit

These are the prospects who want you to solve their immediate problem, right now. Perfect Fit prospects don't need nurturing. They need to quickly find you, spot you offer what they need, and know what they have to do to engage your business. Your marketing has to do all this for them.

Almost Fits

These are the businesses who are very interested in what you do but they have no immediate need for it. This pathway is about nurture; your marketing must provide content that moves them from anonymous browser to a genuine fan, who keeps hanging around you until they are ready to make a purchase decision.

Not There Yet

Their business isn't ready for your solution – yet. This is the longest pathway, and the one most B2B owners give up on too soon. These people could be watching, waiting for months, years, enjoying your marketing as it builds their trust in you, holds their interest, and helps them realise when they are ready.
