In this video, I share one of the most honest lessons from twenty years of running my own business.
Lesson 8: There will be times you HATE being a business owner
There will be times you hate it. Not mildly dislike it. Hate it.
Running a business brings enormous responsibility. You are responsible for finding your own salary every month. You are responsible for the salary of the people you employ or engage. You are responsible for delivering the best value to your clients while protecting the health of your business.
It is relentless and emotionally heavy. The last time it hit me was only three months ago. I found myself on my office floor crying and saying I have been doing this for almost twenty years. I think I am done. These moments are normal. They happen to every business owner.
The key is remembering your why. Standing up off that floor, literally or figuratively, and choosing to carry on. Reconnecting with the good parts of being a business owner helps you move forward again.
