There are sayings like ‘Physician, heal thy self’, ‘Never buy a builder’s house’, and ‘Cobblers wear the worst shoes’ which all boil down to one thing: people are rubbish at using the skills they have to look after their own affairs.
This can be true of marketers.
As I did my end-of-year review and planning for The Marketing Spaces, I pulled out the Strategic Marketing Plan I did at the beginning of the year. I started updating it and then realised: I have an entire course that I could be using. A course with an up-to-date Strategic Marketing Plan template. A course with workbooks. Accompanying videos. A course with everything I need to do my Strategic Marketing Plan for 2023.
But I wasn’t using it.
Clearly, the minute the penny dropped, I headed over to our ‘Scale Sales‘ course, logged in and started using all those workbooks and templates that I’ve poured my knowledge and experience into.
But it made me think: what else do I have to hand already that could help me in my business? And if I’m guilty of ignoring what I have to hand, surely that means everyone else is too?
So, I started looking around my businesses to see what I have in place already to help with our success.
Some of my answers were around the material I had developed for our members, such as our ‘Five Point Checklist for your marketing plan’ short online course.
Some are things I am paying for already– such as the business network I’m part of (one email later, I am now booked in to speak at a Fabulous Networking event in March, to a group I don’t know).
Some are about using the tools I am already paying for better – I didn’t realise I was already paying for a video editing suite and I really need to set my iPad up properly so I can work away from my office and laptop.
So, as you look at how to strengthen your marketing over 2023, while it’s important to bring in what you need, it’s also important to use what you already have.
Warm wishes,
Kara
